Yeah, if only cancer patients would just sprinkle baking soda in their ears and stop eating grains!

Ah no this that page prevent disease is a pure woo fest! They suggested Vit C and DMSO for cancer!

Hahaha I love hating them though jesus I hate them so much! Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

it is, Jacob, and it also varies alot with the type of cancer since there are about 200 that we know of. one dead giveaway that somebody is full of woo is the way they will say something is true of all cancers across the board like "cancer" is one disease.

Rita thats the thing that annoys me the most is that they forget that cancer describes a whole variety of diseases, and also the amount of the general public that believe cancer is all the same disease, there should be some kind of public awareness on this issue!

david84 I am just going to agree with everything you say?

i'm looking for the link with the stats which i can't seem to find right now but if memory serves some of the lowest success rates are in the 30-40% range now and there are others which are above 80%.

Chemo dugs are nasty things theres no doubt about that, but cancers are generally nasty diseases and it takes this to kill or attempt to kill it, besides that theres loads of promising research with new radiation treatments that are way more localized and harm significantly less bystanding cells, but no two treatments will do the same job on all those different types of cancers!

Seriously, to accept this kind of reasoning, you have to think awfully badly of people who work in science and medicine. I mean, scientists and doctors are people too, and they get sick and they have loved ones who get sick.

How does someone get such contempt for people who are, in most cases, genuinely trying to help them?

I suspect many of these thinkers are simply afraid of the modern world, and they manifest their anxiety in this way.

exactly right joanne405 and part of what drives me on the whole anti-woo thing is the blatant disrespect for me (retired infectious disease nurse) and all the brilliant and compassionate nurses, doctors and scientists i've worked with over the years, and how 'friends' tell me right to my face that most or all of us don't deserve any more respect than any random lay idiot online making ridiculous claims. still can't find the link with the stats but this one speaks to your point: http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/the-hidden-cancer-cure/

"Chemotherapy" is a generalization about diverse medications and medication combinations, with diverse ranges of side effects -- coupled with a diversity of conditions for which they are used, and a diversity of patent populations. It is exceptionally difficult to meaningfully generalize about "chemotherapy," when some instances involve high success rates and minimal side effects, while others involve low success rates and very difficult side effects. The knee-jerk public stereotype about "chemotherapy" refers to the situation decades ago, not the current reality.

Well said matthew5!

JoAnne I think this is someone that is just anti western medicine because these outrageous claims will ultimately give them attention. I despise this shit. I lost my nephew at 18 to leukemia and I saw first hand how destroyed an entire family. I also saw the love and dedication of the specialists that tried to save his life. Years on I am a paed and ER nurse. Trust me when the shit hits the fan these people forget the woo shit and ask for doctors and nurses to do everything possible. They don't sit around and pray and refuse treatment.

As far as I'm aware this is the study that alt med based its chemo numbers on https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15630849 Here's a pretty in-depth discussion of why alt med are wrong in using it like they do http://anaximperator.wordpress.com/2009/09/02/only-3-percent-survive-chemotherapy/

This makes my blood boil? I have people in my life that have beaten cancer thanks to chemo. Let them refuse it, so long as its not a child.

in the 80's and 90's most of my patients had HIV/AIDS and i saw so many of them, in their fear and desperation, embrace the woo and refuse most or all of anything real medicine could offer them because it (and we who were providing it) were automatically suspect. and of course the woo head patients and the 'leaders' of their woo groups all died of AIDS and related conditions. getting involved in the anti-woo stuff recently and seeing how they are again (or still) exploiting people as seriously ill as cancer patients made my blood boil too and is a part of what brought me into this.

I have seen this with cancer patients as well

alot of what i saw in the early to mid 80's especially (i got my license in '81) in regards to that is what turned me from all around hippie who was open to believing all kinds of crap to a hippie who had a science education and up front and personal clinical experience with woo, which turned me right into a hippie clinician with critical thinking skills and a really well tuned bullshit meter.

Hahahaha same here but we have to learn somehow?

So they're admitting it works 3% of the time? How do they explain that 3%?:-o

Chemotherapy is awful but it beats the hell out of dying.

I'd better go tell my cancer-survivor friends that they are wrong.

As matthew5 pointed out, "chemo" is a general term. I'm on a regemine of low-dose weekly chemo (methotrexate) for rheumatoid arthritis. I LOVE it. I always feel better a few hours after the first dose, and it helps stop that creepy "bone burn" of the disease. It sure as hell beats being totally disabiled thanks to joint origami. The poster of that nonsense is going to get people killed or totally disabled.
