This delicious, super-moist cake recipe has been in my collection for more than 30 years and it is still a family favourite. Based on the German 'Versunkerer apfelkuchen' it is bound to warm your heart and tummy! The caramel sauce is delicious and probably what makes this cake a winner.
German Apple Cake: Ingredients
1 tin Pie apples(the big tin!) 1 cup flour 1 tsp baking powder 1 cup sugar 3 tbsp butter 1/4 cup milk 3 eggs Salt
1 cup sugar 2 tbsp butter 1cup Ideal milk
Melt margarine and add sugar and eggs. Mix well, add milk, flour, baking powder and salt.
Mix well and pour mixture in greased pie dish.(22x32cm will work perfectly)
Place apples on dough and press lightly.. Bake at 180degreesC for 30 minutes.
Boil ingredients for sauce together in double boiler for 10 minutes and pour over hot cake. Lower the oven temp to 160degrees C and put cake back into the oven for another 5-10 minutes. Just long enough for the sauce to become nice and gooey. Remove from oven, eave to cool and serve.
