TIPS Here are some useful tips that may come in handy for you at some point:
- Always store eggs with the pointed end down. This keeps the yolk in the centre and helps to keep the egg fresh.
- Peel a banana from the bottom and you won't have to pick the little "stringy things" off of it. That's how other primates do it. Take your bananas apart when you get home from the store. If you leave them connected at the stem, they ripen faster.
- Store your opened chunks of cheese in aluminum foil. It will stay fresh much longer and not mould!
- Heat up leftover pizza in a nonstick skillet on top of the stove, set heat to med-low and heat till warm. This keeps the crust crispy. No soggy micro pizza.
- To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins that were refrigerated, place them in a microwave with a cup of water. The increased moisture will keep the food moist and help it reheat faster.
- To prevent eggshells from cracking, add a pinch of salt to the water before boiling.
- If eggshells crack during boiling add a little vinegar to the water. This will set the white
- Before buying grapes you should shake the bunch gently, if grapes fall of the bunch is not fresh. To store grapes, wrap loosely in newspaper and keep in the dark.
- If citrus fruits like lemons, limes, oranges etc have been stored in a fridge, microwave each one for about 4 seconds to increase the amount of juice produced.
- Potatoes will take food stains off your fingers. Just slice and rub the raw potato on the stains and rinse with water.
- If you happen to over-salt a pot of soup, just drop in a peeled potato. The potato will absorb the excess salt.
- If you are making gravy and accidentally burn it, just pour it into a clean pan and continue cooking it. Add sugar a little at a time, tasting as you go to avoid over-sugaring it. The sugar will cancel out the burnt taste.
